Senior Investment Advisor


About the Role

We are seeking an experienced, client-focused Senior Investment Advisor to join our registered investment advisory firm. In this pivotal role, you will serve as the primary relationship manager for high-net-worth clients with portfolios ranging from $3 million to $25+ million with an average account size of about $10 million. With a minimum of 10 years of experience in wealth management, you will provide strategic guidance, comprehensive financial planning, and exceptional service to maintain and strengthen client relationships. This role works closely with the individuals sourcing new clients to create a smooth transition to providing wealth management services.

Key Responsibilities

Client Relationship Management

  • Serve as the trusted advisor for clients, directly impacting retention rates and overall satisfaction
  • Lead client meetings, address goals and needs of clients, explain how markets and lifestyle choices are impacting long-term goals, and make recommendations to the portfolio as needed
  • Effectively triage client concerns, ensure timely resolution while managing expectations
  • Maintain detailed documentation of client life events and status changes, ensure the team remains informed
  • Deliver segmented service offerings as outlined in firm protocols, including meetings and proactive communication
  • Provide sophisticated guidance on trusts, estates, and tax planning strategies
  • Facilitate valuable connections with external professionals including CPAs, estate attorneys, and other specialists
  • Attend client events outside core business hours, as required

Investment Strategy & Management

  • Develop deep understanding of each investment manager’s role within client portfolios and stay informed on recent performance metrics and trends
  • Communicate market insights and investment strategies to clients in clear, meaningful terms
  • Monitor allocation changes, assess their impact on each individual client portfolio, and make strategic adjustments for taxes or other specific needs of the client
  • Provide expert guidance to the portfolio manager on client-specific investment directions
  • Review and approve Investment Policy Statements before client presentation, ensure alignment with client goals and risk tolerance
  • Collaborate with the investment team to gain understanding of managers, strategies, tax implications, outlook and views, and general questions

Prospect Engagement & Onboarding

  • Become the point of contact once prospect is sourced by the Business Development team
  • Lead Sendero Guidance Process (SGP) meetings using the designed framework to fully understand prospective client needs
  • Initiate and oversee New Business Committee (NBC) workflows in the CRM system
  • Provide communication and direction to the team throughout the prospect process
  • Coordinate seamlessly with team members to establish and execute next steps
  • Work directly with incoming clients to gather necessary information for comprehensive onboarding
  • Set clear timeline expectations for paperwork processing, asset transfers, and other transition elements
  • Adhere to established segmentation frameworks, seek appropriate approvals for any exceptions
  • Attend onboarding huddle to prepare your team and operations personnel for a smooth transition in the onboarding process of new clients

Systems Expertise & Team Collaboration

  • Utilize technology platforms effectively to create presentations, review financial plans, discuss strategies with clients, and manage tasks
  • Collaborate with Client Relationship Specialist and Portfolio Managers on complex client situations
  • Provide consistent, constructive feedback to your team
  • Maintain firm standards including calendar management, participation in team initiatives, and prompt response to external requests
  • Communicate time-sensitive trades with precision to portfolio manager, clearly communicate cutoff times, and manage client expectations
  • Document client interactions thoroughly and process critical requests to proper team members (such as wire transfers) with urgency
  • Demonstrate advanced proficiency with financial planning software (Money Guide Pro/Wealth Studios) and CRM systems

Systems Expertise & Team Collaboration

  • Minimum 10+ years of investment advisory experience
  • Demonstrated expertise managing high-net-worth client relationships ($3M-$25M portfolios)
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to explain complex financial concepts clearly
  • Experience with wealth management strategies: trust, estate, and tax planning concepts
  • Proficiency with portfolio reporting software, financial planning software, Excel, PowerPoint, and CRM systems
  • CFP designation preferred but not required with sufficient experience
  • Series 65 license or equivalent required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or related field

Job Duties

  • Build a Relationship Based Practice: fostering deep, trusted, and long-term relationships across generations to help families dedicatedly navigate situations and decisions related to life stages and wealth transfer
  • Support 50-75 clients, take a leadership role in 10-20 client relationships
  • Independently provide investment guidance, and implementing strategies for clients
  • Own monthly financial modeling and database management responsibilities such as IPS Targets and portfolio monitoring to proactively identify opportunities
  • Master understanding of risk statistics and various other portfolio measurement tools to verify accuracy of investment strategies and benchmark performance
  • Master understanding of global markets
  • Use of independent judgement & decision making abilities as well as questioning decisions & probing deeper to ensure best decisions are made
  • Lead the Sendero Guidance Process with clients
  • Create asset allocation recommendations based on investment team’s asset allocation targets and clients’ needs
  • Ability to successfully discuss in-depth investment related questions
  • Collaboratively work with all areas of the firm ensuring client request and needs are executed in a timely manner
  • Full control in the Request for Proposals process
  • Take a leadership role in firm projects
  • Attend prospect presentations and assist in the on-boarding process
  • Attend marketing and business-related events as necessary and/or required

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree preferred in business-related field (accounting, finance, economics, risk management, data analytics, data science or mathematics)
  • Required: 5+ years investment related experience
  • Strong knowledge of portfolio performance and rebalancing systems
  • Strong presentation skills in front of individuals and groups
  • Lead a team of Portfolio Managers by mentoring and coaching
  • Knowledge of Bloomberg and/or FactSet
  • Series 65 license is required and remain in good standing
  • Assume an active role in community board(s)

Competencies:

  • Experience with and/or knowledge of behavioral finance
  • Deep experience in serving families of wealth including Cash Flow Analysis, Income Protection, and Asset Protection
